The Kaduna State Government has commenced the closure of illegal Colleges of Health Sciences operating across the state, as part of measures to safeguard public health and ensure that only properly trained professionals are allowed into the healthcare system.
The exercise is being carried out by the Kaduna State Committee on Private Health Establishments to enforce compliance with existing regulations guiding the operation of private health training institutions.
Officials said the move became necessary following the discovery of several unapproved and unaccredited colleges misleading prospective students and operating outside the law.
According to the state government, the activities of such institutions pose a serious risk, as they churn out inadequately trained health workers whose services could endanger lives.
By sealing the affected colleges, the authorities aim to uphold training standards and prevent the erosion of professionalism within the health sector.
Speaking on the development, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma Ahmed, advised members of the public to exercise due diligence before seeking admission into any health-related institution.
She stressed the importance of enrolling only in schools that have received the necessary approvals and accreditation from relevant regulatory bodies.
The commissioner noted that certificates obtained from illegal institutions are not recognised, warning that students risk losing both time and financial resources by patronising such colleges. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening oversight of private health establishments to ensure strict adherence to approved guidelines.
Hajiya Ahmed also acknowledged the support of the Governor Uba Sani, describing his leadership as instrumental to ongoing reforms in the health sector.
She said the governor’s focus on standardisation and accountability is helping to reposition the sector for improved service delivery.
The state government reiterated that the enforcement exercise would continue, urging owners of private health institutions to regularise their operations or face sanctions in line with the law.
