An early morning explosion damaged a building within the staff quarters of the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, on Tuesday, the Nigeria Police has begun a full-scale investigation.
The Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson, Bashir Usman said the blast occurred in the early hours, triggering concern among residents before security agencies swiftly moved in to stabilise the area.
According to the command, the situation was brought under control shortly after the incident, with no loss of life recorded.
A combined security operation involving the police, military and local vigilante groups cordoned off the hospital environment to prevent further risk and allow specialists to work.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) teams were deployed to assess the scene and determine the source of the explosion.
Police authorities confirmed that although one of the staff residential buildings sustained damage, occupants had evacuated before the blast, avoiding casualties.
Reinforcements were also deployed across Bagudo on the directive of the Commissioner of Police to maintain public order and reassure residents.
The command said investigations were ongoing to establish the cause and circumstances surrounding the explosion, while members of the public were advised to remain calm and stay away from the immediate vicinity to support security and investigative operations.
Police assured that updates would be provided as findings emerge, stressing their commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
