The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has urged the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the hospital to prioritise far-reaching reforms aimed at addressing manpower shortages and infrastructural decay in the institution.
The appeal from the doctors comes on the heels of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s appointment of a new seven-member Governing Council for the institution, formalised in letters signed by his Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi.
The newly inaugurated council is chaired by Prof. Banji Oyelaran, with Mr. Olatunde Oyelade, Dr. Bello Taiwo, Mrs. Isola Bolanle, Dr. Akintunde Ayinde, Prof. Olawale Olakulehin, and Prof. Adenike Olugbenga-Bello serving as members.
Describing the appointment in a signed message, the President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Dr. Adedokun Stephen, noted that it was timely and crucial to repositioning LAUTECH Teaching Hospital for excellence in healthcare delivery and medical training.

“Your appointment comes at a pivotal moment in the life of our institution, when visionary leadership and unwavering commitment are essential to navigate challenges and chart a course toward excellence,” the association said.
The doctors highlighted the urgent need to tackle critical challenges such as manpower shortages, deteriorating infrastructure, and the need for steady funding to support clinical training and service delivery.
They noted that LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso—being Oyo State’s only government-owned tertiary health institution—plays a central role in providing specialist healthcare and training medical professionals across various disciplines.
“As a referral hub for numerous health facilities within and beyond the state, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital requires continuous infrastructural upgrades, strategic recruitment across all cadres, and sustained funding for the training and retraining of medical professionals,” the statement read in part.
The association commended Governor Makinde for his consistent support to the hospital, particularly his recent visit and commitments to revitalise health facilities across the state under the Omituntun 2.0 vision.
“His recent visit to the hospital, coupled with the promises that are already taking shape, has rekindled hope and reaffirmed our faith in the Omituntun 2.0 vision,” the ARD noted.
Expressing optimism about the new Governing Council’s capacity to drive reform, the doctors urged the members to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to implement practical solutions that would enhance efficiency and service delivery.
