The Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, (ABUAD) Aare Afe Babalola, has appealed to wealthy Nigerians to channel more of their resources into strengthening the country’s education and health sectors, saying such investments are vital to national growth and the wellbeing of citizens.
Babalola, who made the call while hosting a nine-member delegation of the Nigerian Medical Association led by the NMA First Vice President, Dr Benjamin Olowojebutu, said his university and the ABUAD Multi-System Hospital had continued to demonstrate how private initiatives could transform healthcare delivery, medical training, and reduce dependence on foreign treatment.

According to a statement by the Director of ABUAD Corporate Affairs, Tunde Olofintila, the educationist noted that many Nigerians possessed the capacity to make greater contributions but had not realised how far their efforts could go in building a better society.
He urged Nigerians to cultivate the spirit of giving, stressing that millions were facing severe hardship and needed acts of kindness—no matter how small—to survive daily challenges.
Olowojebutu, who praised Babalola for his expansive investments in education and health, described his visit to ABUAD facilities as overwhelming, noting the university’s non-profit model and its impact on Ekiti State.
He highlighted the hospital’s clean environment, functional radiology department, dialysis services, and in-house oxygen production as examples of excellence worthy of national support.
Earlier, ABUAD Vice Chancellor, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, said Babalola had redefined Nigeria’s medical education ecosystem and stressed the need for broader encouragement to ease the heavy doctor-patient ratio burden across the country.
