Popular Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has opened up about how becoming a father at the age of 25 transformed his life, both personally and financially.
The Zanku Records boss revealed that the experience pushed him to take responsibility and make serious adjustments in how he approached his career, finances, and lifestyle.
Speaking on a recent episode of the podcast “Is This A Safe Space?”, Zlatan shared that the birth of his son five years ago made him realise the importance of stability and discipline.

He admitted that while the experience was beautiful, it also came with challenges that forced him to mature quickly.
“The birth of my son changed me. It made me realise that life was getting more serious. I wasn’t prepared,” the rapper confessed. “I started paying house rent in London at 25. I was scared I might not be able to keep up with the bills because some people were saying I might not be relevant in the music industry for more than three years.”
Zlatan, whose real name is Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, said fatherhood made him reconsider how he managed money, especially as his expenses increased after relocating abroad.
He revealed that he became more intentional about saving and cutting down unnecessary spending to ensure he could meet his responsibilities as a parent.
“I became more serious with managing my finances. I limited spending and started saving for diapers,” he said, recalling how the new phase of life forced him to prioritize his son’s needs over personal indulgences.
The rapper, known for his street-inspired hits and energetic dance moves, admitted that fatherhood also influenced his character and habits. He noted that the arrival of his son served as a wake-up call, prompting him to avoid behaviors and circles that could negatively affect his family or career.
“I regretted some of my past actions after becoming a father. Having a child made me more conscious of the kind of person I wanted to be,” he added.
Since breaking into the limelight with his 2018 hit “Zanku (Leg Work)”, Zlatan has become one of Nigeria’s most successful and influential artists, blending street vibes with Afro-fusion to create chart-topping anthems.
Despite early doubts about the longevity of his career, he has continued to evolve musically while running his record label and mentoring younger talents.
Through his reflection, Zlatan Ibile joins a growing list of Nigerian entertainers who have spoken candidly about how parenthood has reshaped their perspectives, proving that behind the fame and glamour, many still face the same life challenges as everyday people.
The rapper’s openness offers a glimpse into his growth beyond the stage, from a carefree street sensation to a responsible father committed to building a better future for his son.
