Nigerian singer and producer John Saviours Udomboso, widely known as Young John, has appealed to critics to stop undermining his talent and hard work.
The music star appealed to social media after facing a new wave of criticism from listeners who accused him of sounding “monotonous”.
Young John, who has built a strong reputation over the years as both a hit-making producer and a chart-topping singer, reacted firmly to the comments.

He stated that he has spent years developing his sound and does not appreciate attempts to belittle his effort.
In a message posted on his X page, he wrote, “If you’re not a fan of my work, leave it at that! Don’t come here and water down my years of hard work!”
His post quickly gained widespread attention, drawing reactions from fans, fellow artists, and industry insiders.
The singer’s frustration comes amid ongoing debates about the creativity of Nigerian artists and the pressure to constantly reinvent their sound.
While some critics argued that Young John’s recent releases sound similar, many of his supporters defended him, saying his style is unique and part of what makes his music easily recognisable.
Young John’s career journey shows how much effort he has invested in his craft. He began his career as a producer in 2010 and slowly worked his way up in the Nigerian music industry.
His breakthrough came during his time with Olamide’s YBNL family, where he helped produce some of the biggest Afrobeats hits of the 2010s.
His signature tag, “Young John, The Wicked Producer”, became one of the most popular producer tags in Nigeria, appearing on several hit tracks.
Through this period, he built a reputation as one of the most innovative producers in the industry.
In 2022, he took a bold step by switching from full-time production to singing after signing a recording deal with Chocolate City.
The move surprised many fans, but Young John quickly proved that he was more than capable of succeeding as an artist.
His debut single, Dada, became an instant hit. The song dominated charts and social media, earning massive streams and widespread airplay.
A remix featuring Davido pushed the track even further, making it one of the standout Afrobeats songs of the year and officially cementing Young John’s transition from producer to full-fledged artist.
Since then, he has released multiple songs that have connected with audiences, expanding his fan base and shaping his identity as a performer.
