According to Omah Lay, he initially believed the relationship was serious and had even begun thinking about starting a family with the woman involved.
However, the relationship reportedly fell apart while he was attending the Grammy Awards in early February 2025.
Reflecting on the moment, the singer revealed that the breakup happened during the same period he was present at the ceremony, making it difficult for him to fully enjoy the experience.
“Every time I fall in love, I lose myself. While I was at the Grammy and Justin Bieber was performing, I was having a breakup and an embarrassing moment,” he said.
The singer explained that problems in the relationship had already started before the event, leaving him emotionally distracted throughout the ceremony.
“While I was at the Grammys, I was not present because even before the show I had already started having issues in my relationship. And this was only a two month old relationship. But I thought it was the right relationship and I was going to have a baby,” he said.
Omah Lay also revealed that he often struggles with balancing multiple aspects of his life, particularly when it comes to maintaining a romantic relationship while focusing on his music career.
According to him, when he becomes invested in something, he tends to devote all his attention and energy to it.
“I don’t know how to do two things at time. When I am into one thing, all of me is into that,” he said.
The singer explained that the emotional experience eventually inspired his song Don’t Love Me, which reflects his thoughts about relationships and personal priorities.
“So my song ‘Don’t Love Me’ is me saying girl, let’s enjoy this moment but as soon as I find another thing that gives me pleasure, I’m going to leave,” he explained.
Omah Lay’s candid reflection on love, heartbreak, and self-awareness has resonated with many fans, especially as artists increasingly open up about the personal experiences behind their music.
The singer is known for weaving emotional themes and personal struggles into his songs, often drawing inspiration from real-life experiences to shape his sound and storytelling.
