The Nigerian DJ Association, NDJ, has announced a temporary ban on all songs by Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy from the playlists of its members nationwide.
The association decided on Wednesday following allegations that Burna Boy and members of his team physically attacked DJ Tunez during an event in Lagos.
According to reports, the incident happened on Monday night at Obi’s House, a popular weekly Afrobeats gathering held in Lagos.

The event, which is usually attended by music lovers, celebrities, and industry figures, reportedly turned chaotic after DJ Tunez allegedly played songs by Wizkid but did not include Burna Boy’s music in his set.
A viral video that surfaced online showed DJ Tunez being pushed, beaten, and kicked while lying on the floor.
The clip quickly spread across social media and generated outrage among fans and entertainment stakeholders.
Many Nigerians condemned the alleged assault, while others expressed shock that such an incident could happen at a public event involving major figures in the music industry.
Although Burna Boy has not publicly addressed the allegation, the Nigerian DJ Association said it was taking the matter seriously.
In an official statement posted on Instagram, the association announced that it had removed Burna Boy’s music from the playlists of all DJs under its umbrella pending the outcome of its investigation.
“Burna Boy music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlist till further notice,” the statement read.
The association explained that the action was necessary because DJ Tunez is a member of the DJ community and the organisation has a duty to protect its members.
“Our team will carry out a proper investigation on the incident that happened to one of our own, DJ Tunez,” the NDJ added.
The association also used the opportunity to call for more respect and professionalism within the entertainment industry.
According to the NDJ, DJs and artists must work together peacefully and should never resort to violence over disagreements.
“We urge the DJs in Nigeria as a whole to be vigilant and be respectful to any individual male or female artist in their various events,” the statement said.
The decision to suspend Burna Boy’s music has sparked mixed reactions online.
While some social media users applauded the association for standing up for one of its members, others argued that the move may be too harsh before a full investigation is concluded.
Supporters of the decision insisted that the alleged attack was unacceptable and that the DJ community had every right to protest.
According to them, DJs are an important part of the music industry because they help promote songs, artists, and events.
They argued that if DJs are not treated with respect, the relationship between artists and those who play their music could suffer.
Others, however, questioned whether banning Burna Boy’s music would solve the problem.
Some users suggested that both sides should be allowed to explain what happened before any long-term action is taken.
The controversy has also reignited conversations about rivalry within the Nigerian music industry.
According to those present at the event, the alleged confrontation began because DJ Tunez played songs by Wizkid but did not include Burna Boy in his set.
The reported reason has drawn criticism from many Nigerians, who believe artists should not see one another as enemies.
Some fans described the incident as another example of the unhealthy competition that sometimes exists among top Afrobeats stars and their supporters.
For years, Burna Boy and Wizkid have been regarded as two of the biggest names in Nigerian music.
Both singers enjoy huge popularity in Nigeria and abroad, and their fans are often involved in heated arguments online over who is bigger or more successful.
However, many industry observers say such competition should never result in hostility or violence.
The alleged attack on DJ Tunez comes at a time when the Nigerian entertainment industry is already facing criticism over the behaviour of some artists and their entourages.
In recent years, there have been several reports of confrontations involving musicians, security personnel, and event organisers.
Many stakeholders have therefore called for stricter rules at events and more accountability from celebrities and their teams.
As of Wednesday evening, DJ Tunez had not issued a detailed statement about the incident.
Likewise, Burna Boy and his management team had not responded publicly to the accusations.
The Nigerian DJ Association said its investigation is ongoing and that further action may be taken depending on the outcome.
For now, however, Burna Boy’s music remains suspended from the playlists of DJs affiliated with the NDJ.
The development marks one of the strongest reactions by a professional body in the Nigerian music industry in recent years and could have a wider impact on the relationship between artists and DJs going forward.
