Popular Nigerian singer Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, has ignited discussions online with his recent statement about Jesus.

Taking to his X handle, the artist expressed his belief that a Muslim who does not believe in Jesus is not truly a Muslim. “No Muslim is a Muslim if he does not believe in Jesus (Peace be upon him),” he wrote.

Ramadan posts stir conversations

Since the beginning of Ramadan, Naira Marley has been sharing thoughts on religion. His latest post, however, sparked a heated debate among Christians and Muslims. Many engaged in discussions about their respective views on Jesus, leading to a mix of support, criticism, and theological debate.

Christian and muslim views on Jesus

Christians and Muslims hold different beliefs about Jesus. For Christians, Jesus is either God or the Son of God, central to their faith and salvation. Meanwhile, Muslims regard Jesus (known as Isa in Islam) as a prophet and messenger sent to the Children of Israel with the Gospel. Islam teaches that he performed miracles but was not divine.

Mixed reactions from the public

Many of Naira Marley’s followers praised him for promoting religious understanding. Some Muslims supported his statement, emphasizing that belief in Jesus as a prophet is part of Islamic teachings. However, others felt his wording could cause confusion about Islamic doctrine.

Christians also weighed in, with some appreciating his acknowledgment of Jesus in Islam. Others, however, stressed the significant theological differences between the two religions. Some users urged unity and respect, arguing that open discussions like this can bridge religious gaps.

Debate continues online

So far, Naira Marley has not responded to the ongoing debate. However, his post continues to generate thousands of reactions and comments. As discussions unfold, his statement has once again brought attention to the deep connections and distinctions between Christianity and Islam.
