Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has revisited one of the most difficult moments of her life, the leak of her private intimate video, revealing that it happened while she was still grieving the death of her father.
Speaking in a recent interview with British media personality Zeze Mills, the award-winning singer described the experience as her lowest point. She explained that she was already dealing with deep personal loss when the scandal erupted.
“It was a space of like two months where my dad died and my sex tape was released,” Savage said, recalling the emotional toll it took on her. “That period was the lowest moment of my life.”
The Afrobeats star said she was able to survive the intense scrutiny and public backlash by choosing not to dwell on the incident. She focused instead on moving forward, refusing to let the controversy break her spirit.
Back in October 2021, Savage’s name dominated headlines around the world when a short video of her in an intimate moment with her partner surfaced online.

At the time, the clip spread rapidly across social media platforms, sparking widespread debate and drawing mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.
In an earlier interview with American radio host Angie Martinez on Power 105.1, Savage revealed that the tape had been leaked by someone who attempted to blackmail her.
According to her, the individual demanded money in exchange for not making the video public.
She said she refused to give in to the demands, insisting that she would not allow anyone to use the footage to control or shame her. “I was not going to allow anyone to blackmail me,” Savage declared, stressing that giving in would have set a dangerous precedent and handed power to the wrong person.
Her decision to speak openly about the situation at the time drew both praise and criticism. Many lauded her courage for owning her narrative, while others questioned her choice to address it publicly.
However, Savage has maintained that confronting the matter head-on was the best way to take control of the story and limit the power of those seeking to exploit her.

Despite the controversy, Tiwa Savage has continued to grow her career, releasing new music, performing at major events, and securing global brand partnerships. She has also used her platform to encourage other women to stand firm in the face of public judgment and online shaming.
By sharing her experience, Savage hopes to highlight the importance of mental strength, especially in an industry where personal challenges often play out under the harsh glare of public scrutiny.
