Nigerian musician Tiwa Savage has spoken up about the hardships of balancing her music career with motherhood, highlighting the importance of support in her life as a single mother.
During a recent appearance on the Big Friday Show, hosted by BBNaija alumnus Tacha, the singer passionately discussed her upcoming new album, creative process, and motherhood journey.
Savage also addressed her son’s godmothers, who assist her when she travels for work; she also taught Tacha that being a mother does not end when children reach adolescence.
“I look at my mum, and she still mothers me at this age. She still calls to ask if I’ve eaten and tells me to drink lots of water and rest. When she sees things online, she still worries about me at my big age. Our jobs don’t end,” she said.
“And for me, I think as women we can juggle lots of things at once; that’s our superpower. I can literally be a full time mum and a a full time career woman.”
In the same interview, Tiwa Savage also stated that she detested two of her tracks, which were selected by her former manager Don Jazzy and became smash records.
In a recent interview with Cool FM, the singer revealed that two of her hit songs, ‘Eminado’ and ‘Dorobucci,’ were songs she never liked.
However, she stated that Don Jazzy demanded she release the songs because he felt they were what Nigerians wanted, which led to their success.
She said, “I hated Eminado when I first heard it. Don Jazzy played it for me; I was like, I don’t like it, and he said it’s going on my album, and I said no, he was like, this album is not coming out if you don’t put Eminado in it. And I asked what Eminado was all about, and he said he understood the market.
“You just have to go with Jazzy, because that’s Don Jazzy. Now I have to perform it every time because everyone is waiting for it.I did not like Dorobucci either; everybody loved it. I was the last person to do my verse, and I did not like it. I was like, nobody was going to like it, and then the whole Africa loved it.”
