Award-winning Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has opened up about the high expectations she has for her next romantic relationship, and why those standards may be keeping her single.
In a recent interview on Apple Music 1, the 45-year-old “Stamina” hitmaker spoke candidly about her 2023 hit song Somebody’s Son and how it reflects her ongoing search for love. Savage admitted she is still on the lookout for the right man but is unwilling to lower her requirements.
“I’m still looking for someone’s son. I don’t have any [partner],” she said with a laugh. “And I think it’s because I’m asking for specific things. Maybe I need to narrow my search down.”
The mother of one revealed she wants a man who can provide a life of comfort and luxury. Her list of must-haves includes owning a private jet and a yacht. She also made it clear that she is not interested in dealing with the emotional baggage of “baby mama drama.”
“I’m actually looking for someone who has a private plane, a yacht; someone who doesn’t have baby mama drama because I can’t deal with that,” she stated. “Maybe that’s my problem.”

Savage’s remarks, though delivered playfully, reflect a shift in her approach to relationships. In recent months, the Afrobeats star has openly said she is prioritising financial stability and peace of mind over romance.
Earlier this year, she sparked discussion after revealing she avoids dating Nigerian men due to what she described as their “lack of romance.” The comment stirred mixed reactions online, with some agreeing and others accusing her of making unfair generalisations.
Tiwa Savage’s love life has been in the public eye for years. She married music executive Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun in 2013, and the couple welcomed their son, Jamal, in 2015. However, their marriage ended in a widely publicised divorce in 2018.
Since then, the “Somebody’s Son” singer has kept her relationships private, choosing instead to focus on her music career and motherhood. Despite her high-profile status, she insists she is still searching for a partner who matches her energy, ambition, and lifestyle.
Savage’s high standards have sparked conversation among fans, with some supporting her desire for a partner who can match her success, while others suggest that such specific demands might make it harder to find genuine love.
Still, the Afrobeats queen seems unfazed by public opinion. For her, it’s about quality over compromise. “I know what I want, and I’m not afraid to say it,” she hinted during the interview.
As Tiwa Savage continues her global music journey, performing to sold-out crowds and breaking international barriers, her fans remain curious about whether “somebody’s son” will meet her list of requirements and win her heart.
For now, the singer says she is keeping her standards high and her options open.
