Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage has once again addressed the viral controversy surrounding the leak of her intimate video, firmly dismissing claims that she released it herself to stay relevant in the entertainment industry.
Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Savage described the experience as one of the most traumatic chapters of her life, revealing how deeply it affected her emotionally.
She explained that the tape was leaked as part of a bet involving her ex-partner, making the situation even more painful to process.
Savage said the public response to the scandal compounded her distress, as many failed to recognize her as a victim of extortion.
“I was bashed for my s3x video. A lot of people think I was just trying to get sympathy. Even people with platforms were quite horrible and blamed me,” she recounted.

Rather than being met with empathy, Savage said she was criticised for refusing to yield to her blackmailer’s demands. The narrative that she orchestrated the leak for attention, she added, was particularly hurtful.
“The idea that I would ever do that to myself, to my son, and to my family just to stay in the news is absurd. It was painful seeing how quick people were to judge.”
Despite the backlash, Savage shared that her mother’s words became a source of strength and healing during the difficult time.
“My mom called me and said, ‘Don’t listen to them… I’m just happy that you’re enjoying yourself.’ Hearing my mom say that helped,” Savage revealed.
She also disclosed that she has been seeing a therapist to work through the trauma, a decision she says has helped her regain perspective.
“For therapy, yeah, a lot of people say to me, ‘you’re wasting your money.’ I’m like, what? I love my son, I love my team, my friends. I’ve been married before, I’m 45, I’m good,” she said, adding that therapy has allowed her to prioritize her emotional health.
Savage admitted that the incident has reshaped her views on love, intimacy, and relationships. She revealed that she has gone years without being intimate and is now more focused on meaningful connections rather than casual encounters.
“I don’t know if I don’t come attached. I’ve gone like maybe three years without. I have to be with someone for me to even think about it. I don’t have toys… maybe that’s what people should get me for Christmas,” Tiwa Savage joked.
Her revelations serve as both a clarification and a reminder that behind the headlines, celebrities also grapple with pain, healing, and resilience.
