Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has broken her silence on her public fallout with fellow music icon Davido, clarifying that the disagreement was caused by a miscommunication and not deep-seated animosity.
Speaking during an interview on The Breakfast Club, Savage revealed that what transpired between them was blown out of proportion, explaining that Davido’s words, which she interpreted as threats, prompted her to take protective action.
Tiwa disclosed that she filed a police report not as an act of hostility but as a precautionary measure.
“I think it was a miscommunication,” she explained. “I think out of anger maybe he might have made threats. He might have made threats, do I think he was really going to go ahead with it? No. But again, I’m not taking any risks.”
The ‘Somebody’s Son’ crooner added that threats, whether serious or not, could potentially be acted upon by people within earshot of the conversation.
“You could be saying it around people who wanna now act out on what you’re saying,” she noted, stressing that her decision was about ensuring her safety.

Before resorting to official measures, Savage said she attempted to settle the matter quietly. She revealed that she reached out to some of Davido’s older family members, seeking mediation, but none of them responded.
“Before I did that though, I reached out to members of his family, I’m not gonna say names, but people that are older than him, and I said okay I’m hearing threats, can we solve this? And none of them came back to me,” Savage stated. “Just for the record, before I do anything, can we solve this?”
Despite the fallout, Savage emphasised that she has no ill feelings towards Davido and still considers him her brother.
“I haven’t spoken to you David, but I do want you to know that I do love you and I would never betray you or take sides,” she said.
Her comments signal a desire to move past the feud and restore cordial relations.
The disagreement between the two Afrobeats heavyweights dates back to January 2024, when Tiwa Savage posted a photo with Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama.
The timing of the photo, shared amid Davido’s ongoing child custody battle with Sophia, sparked speculation that Savage was taking sides.
The incident quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans and fueling tensions between the two stars.
By publicly reaffirming her respect for Davido, Tiwa Savage appears to be extending an olive branch. Her comments have already stirred conversations among fans, with many urging both artists to reconcile and move forward.
As two of Afrobeats’ biggest global ambassadors, their relationship remains significant for the culture, and fans are hopeful that their friendship will be restored.
