Nigerian hip-hop artist, Tochukwu Ojogwu, better known as Odumodublvck, has taken a firm stand against fellow rapper Blaqbonez, urging him to stop claiming the title of the best rapper in Nigeria.
The war of words between the two artists recently intensified following a heated exchange on social media. According to New Daily Prime, the tension escalated after Blaqbonez appeared to throw jabs at Odumodublvck in a new song titled Who’s Really Rapping, which he released in collaboration with rapper A-Q.
‘You are not the best,’ Odumodublvck fires back
During a recent interview on Jusmen 105.7 FM, Odumodublvck responded strongly to Blaqbonez’s claims. He argued that labelling oneself as Nigeria’s best rapper is not only misleading but also an insult to the industry’s pioneers and legends.
“Do you know what it means to say you are the best rapper in Nigeria?” Odumodublvck asked. “Stop joking. You are not the best rapper.”
He went on to name several respected rappers whom he believes are more deserving of that title. “M.I is the best rapper. Vector is the best rapper,” he said.
Questioning Blaqbonez’s credentials
Odumodublvck didn’t stop at naming industry veterans. He also pointed to award shows and public recognition as key evidence that Blaqbonez’s claim doesn’t hold water.
“If you were truly the best rapper, you would have won Best Rap Album of the Year at the Headies,” he said. “You weren’t even nominated for Best Rap Single.”
According to Odumodublvck, it is not enough to have confidence; a rapper must back up their words with clear achievements.
Showing respect to the veterans
The Declan Rice rapper emphasised the need to recognise and respect those who paved the way in Nigerian hip-hop. He explained that he would never claim to be the best without first surpassing the legacies of established icons.
“I’m not better than Phyno as a rapper,” he admitted. “Look at his legacy.”
He continued by listing other rap legends who have left a significant mark on the genre: “There’s Olamide, Vector, M.I, Modenine, Ghost, and Tec. For me to say I’m the best rapper, I have to be sure I really am.”
Calls for humility and honesty
Odumodublvck’s frustration was clear as he expressed how Blaqbonez’s statements rubbed him the wrong way.
“It’s getting on my nerves, bro,” he said. “You can get smacked in the face for that kind of sh*t.”
Despite the tough talk, Odumodublvck insisted that he respects Blaqbonez as an artist. However, he believes that falsely declaring oneself the best sends the wrong message, especially to younger fans.
“Stop lying to the kids that you’re the best,” he said. “Nobody is even booking you for shows right now.”
Praising Blaqbonez’s talent, with a warning
Odumodublvck acknowledged that Blaqbonez is far from a poor artist. In fact, he called him an “amazing artist,” but warned that personal insecurity should not be disguised as confidence.
“No one is saying you’re a wack artist,” he said. “But don’t come and use your insecurities to close the door on others.”
Fans react to the ongoing drama
The back-and-forth between the two rappers has caught the attention of music lovers across the country. Many fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts, with some supporting Odumodublvck’s argument while others back Blaqbonez.
This latest episode adds to a long list of feuds in the Nigerian music industry, but it also raises deeper questions about self-promotion, respect for rap history, and the role of recognition in determining who holds the crown.
A spotlight on Nigerian hip-hop
While the feud may seem personal, it highlights the passion and competition that drive Nigerian hip-hop forward. As artists continue to push boundaries and challenge each other, the industry keeps evolving.
Whether this disagreement ends here or continues with more responses remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: the conversation around who’s really the best rapper in Nigeria just got louder.
