Popular Nigerian musician Slimcase has stirred conversations online after claiming that the Afrobeats sound is becoming boring due to the overwhelming number of songs released by artists.
Taking to his Instagram story, the singer expressed concern that the genre is losing its freshness and excitement, as artists continue to drop multiple singles and albums within short periods.
According to Slimcase, the constant release of new music has made Afrobeats repetitive, urging his colleagues to “take a break” and focus on quality rather than quantity.

“Too many songs and albums. Una too dey put una self for pressure for this Niger sha. Take a chill pill and be like Rihanna. Do other things, come back to give us a fresh vibe,” he wrote in Pidgin English.
He added that the oversaturation of the market is gradually killing the genre’s originality.
“Your sounds are getting boring because dem dey come too much in a year. I owe dem a song this year and that is it. It is only God that is new every morning. Every day and every second, singles and albums dey kiiii Afrobeats gradually. It is not fun anymore,” he lamented.
Slimcase, known for his energetic street-style music and signature slang, he rose to fame with hits like Shaku Shaku, Shepeteri, and Azaman.
In recent years, however, he has maintained a relatively low profile, occasionally weighing in on entertainment and industry trends.
His remarks echo a growing sentiment among music lovers who believe that the constant flood of new Afrobeats songs, driven by streaming culture and digital competition, has made it harder for fans to fully enjoy or appreciate individual records.
While some fans have called Slimcase’s take “controversial,” others say his message is timely, urging Afrobeats artists to pace themselves and prioritize creativity over consistency.
