Popular Nigerian singer Skales has debunked rumours that his colleague, Burna Boy, once gifted him ₦600,000 during a period of financial hardship.
The singer dismissed the claim while speaking on the negative impact of fake news and social media toxicity in the music industry during a recent interview on the Adesope Live show.
According to Skales, the story was fabricated by an overzealous Burna Boy fan on X (formerly Twitter), whom he accused of deliberately spreading falsehoods to fuel online hate and rivalry.

“There was a time I had to reach out to a Burna Boy fan on Twitter, I think his name is Benny or something. I asked him what I had done to him to warrant the hate he exhibits towards me,” Skales said.
He explained that the fan allegedly created the false narrative that Burna Boy once came to his rescue financially.
“He created a fake news that there was a time that I was broke and Burna Boy helped me with ₦600,000. That never happened,” the singer clarified.
Skales warned that such misinformation can strain relationships within the industry and urged fellow artists not to allow fans pitch them against one another.
He advised musicians to communicate directly and seek clarification whenever controversies arise, rather than allowing rumours to fester online.
The singer’s remarks add to the growing conversation about the influence of fan culture and misinformation on relationships among Nigerian music stars.
