Nigerian singer Chike has revealed that he has no plans to marry, describing the institution as a “stupid step.”
The soulful vocalist made the remarks during a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.
“In my personal opinion, I think it’s a stupid step to get married. That’s my opinion,” Chike said, making it clear that marriage is not part of his life plan. The “Running” hitmaker emphasised that he prefers to focus on his happiness rather than follow societal expectations.
Chike also revealed that his happiness is closely tied to financial stability. “I need a lot of money to be happy,” he explained. He stressed that this is not a reflection of greed but a desire to live the life he envisions for himself. “It’s about creating the kind of life I want,” he added, underlining that financial security is essential for his peace of mind.

The singer also opened up about his music career. He confessed that music was never part of his original plan. “I only discovered my passion for music after university,” Chike said.
His journey into the music industry, which has now made him one of Nigeria’s most recognisable voices, came as a surprise even to him.
Known for his soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics, Chike has amassed a loyal fanbase. However, he acknowledged that some critics view him as arrogant.
“People sometimes say I am arrogant, but it doesn’t bother me,” he said, demonstrating a strong sense of self-confidence. He explained that he is comfortable in his skin and refuses to be swayed by negative opinions.
Chike’s candid statements come amid ongoing discussions in Nigeria’s entertainment and social media circles about marriage, wealth, and personal fulfilment.
His perspective challenges traditional expectations, especially in a society where marriage is often seen as a major milestone in adult life. By prioritising financial independence and personal happiness over marriage, Chike is encouraging young Nigerians to define success on their own terms.
The singer’s approach to life and career has clearly resonated with many fans, who admire his honesty and commitment to following his own path. As he continues to release music and grow his brand, Chike remains focused on building a life that aligns with his values.
Chike, who gained fame with hits like Running and Beautiful People, is now regarded as one of Nigeria’s most versatile and talented contemporary artists.
His music, marked by soulful melodies and relatable lyrics, continues to inspire fans across the country and beyond.
