Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has spoken out strongly against the growing culture of body shaming, particularly targeting women who choose cosmetic procedures such as liposuction and Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL).
In a passionate Instagram post, the actress urged critics to stop judging others’ choices, stressing that every individual has the right to decide what works best for their own body and happiness.
“Stop talking down on people who got their body done,” she wrote. “Sis, if you knew the amount of work they put in just to get a good result, you would understand the fact that liposuction will not fix your massive weight.”
Martins took the opportunity to educate her followers about what liposuction really entails. Contrary to the widespread belief that it is a shortcut to weight loss, she explained that liposuction is primarily a contouring procedure, often performed after significant weight loss to achieve a more defined figure.

“Liposuction can fix a belly that has already lost a huge amount of weight, not your whole body!” she clarified. “Why do you think people have to go through a gastric bypass before undergoing lipo? Liposuction doesn’t guarantee a banging body.”
The actress emphasised that surgery alone is not a magic fix, noting that proper maintenance is crucial for lasting results. “Even after surgery, if you still fail to take the proper measures to maintain your figure by eating healthy, you will still go back to square one,” she warned.
Martins’ message was not just about defending women who opt for surgery but also about encouraging body confidence across the board. She urged women to proudly embrace their natural bodies if they are comfortable, while also affirming those who choose to enhance their appearance through surgery.
“If you’re confident in your natural body, rock it with pride,” she wrote. “However, if you feel you need surgery to enhance your appearance, do it still! It’s your money and your happiness too, so do what works for you!”
The actress also touched on the pressure faced by naturally curvy women, explaining that even those who have not undergone surgery are often accused of doing so simply because of their body type.

“Even people who are naturally curvy and work so hard to maintain their figure are also being accused of undergoing surgery because nobody seems to believe some women are naturally built that way,” she added.
Closing her message, Martins called for a culture shift where people respect each other’s choices rather than policing them. She condemned the growing habit of tearing others down online, reminding critics that they did not create the bodies they are criticising.
“You did not create them, so you have absolutely NO right to talk down on their body type!” she wrote.
Her post has since sparked conversations online about body autonomy, self-esteem, and the pressures women face in maintaining a certain look in a society that often scrutinises female appearances.
