Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu strongly warns singles and married individuals to prioritize their well-being in relationships for a healthier life.

In a recent video, Agu shared heartfelt advice on love, marriage, and the dangers of ignoring red flags.

Caution for singles: Avoid desperation

Agu advised single people to be cautious when seeking a life partner. He warned against rushing into marriage out of desperation, saying this often leads to poor decisions. According to him, many individuals ignore obvious warning signs because they are eager to settle down.

He also urged singles not to choose a spouse based solely on physical appearance or societal pressure. “He is handsome, I want to marry him. See you, see death,” he warned. Agu stressed that a person’s character is more important than their looks.

In addition, he encouraged people to conduct thorough background checks on potential spouses. He explained that knowing a partner’s past can help prevent future heartbreak and regrets.

Advice for married ocuples: Prioritize happiness

Speaking to those already married, Agu emphasized that happiness and safety should always come first. He urged people in unhappy or toxic marriages to seek help or consider leaving.

“Marriage is not a do-or-die affair,” he declared. “If you have an abusive partner, run for your life. If you are in a toxic relationship, run for your life.”

He criticized the idea of staying in a harmful marriage for the sake of children. Using a real-life example, he said, “A woman once said, ‘I will stay because of my children.’ She was killed. Now, who will take care of the kids? The man who killed her? Or her relatives who have their own families to care for?”

Warning against ignoring red flags

Agu stressed the dangers of ignoring warning signs in relationships. He explained that staying in an abusive marriage can have deadly consequences. He made it clear that divorce is a better option than enduring violence.

“Divorce is better than ‘rest in peace,’” he warned. He urged people to take their safety seriously and leave abusive relationships before it is too late.

The seasoned actor concluded by encouraging people to make wise decisions when choosing a partner. He reminded everyone that marriage should bring joy, not suffering. His message was clear: love should never come at the cost of one’s life.
