Nigerian singer Reekado Banks has revealed that fellow artist Wizkid has expressed regret over their public fallout in 2020 during the height of the #EndSARS movement.
In a recent interview on The Esther Show, Reekado reflected on the heated exchange that shocked fans across the country. At the time, Wizkid had lashed out at him on social media for announcing a song release during the national protest against police brutality.
The conflict over ‘Omo olomo’
Back in October 2020, Reekado Banks announced the release of a joint track with Wizkid titled Omo Olomo. The announcement came during the peak of the #EndSARS protests, a youth-led movement demanding an end to police violence and the notorious SARS unit.
Wizkid, who was very vocal in supporting the protest, didn’t take the announcement lightly. He took to Twitter and publicly slammed Reekado Banks, calling him a “fool” and a “clout animal.” The harsh words caused a stir among fans and drew widespread attention online.
Reekado explains what happened
Speaking during the interview, Reekado Banks clarified what led to the release of the song at such a sensitive time. He explained that he had personally advised against putting out the track but was overruled by his management team.
According to him, the decision to release Omo Olomo was not entirely his. He said his team had already scheduled it and chose not to delay the launch, even though the country was in mourning and unrest.
“I was not in support of the release at the time,” Reekado said. “My management felt we had made all the arrangements already, and they insisted it should go on. Unfortunately, that led to a public misunderstanding.”
Wizkid apologised in a private meeting
The former Mavin Records star also revealed that Wizkid recently visited him at his restaurant. During the visit, they discussed the issue and cleared the air.
Reekado said Wizkid admitted he could have handled the situation better and expressed regret for his outburst.
“Recently, he [Wizkid] came visiting my restaurant. We had a little talk, and he was a little regretful about it. He was like, ‘I shouldn’t have gone that route.’ He mentioned how he also spoke harshly to Don Jazzy during that period,” Reekado stated.
Shared grief helped rebuild bond
Both singers have experienced personal loss in recent times. Reekado noted that the shared pain of losing their mothers brought them closer together again.
He said, “We are three people in the game who recently lost our moms. And he feels sorry about that time. So, we’re good now.”
The singer emphasised that there is no bad blood between them anymore and that they’ve moved past the incident.
Fans welcome reconciliation
News of the reconciliation between Reekado Banks and Wizkid has been received with relief by many fans. Social media users have praised both artists for handling the matter maturely and choosing peace over continued rivalry.
The original clash had sparked debate over how artists should conduct themselves during national crises. While some had supported Wizkid’s emotional response at the time, others felt his reaction was too harsh.
Looking ahead
Now that the two artists are back on good terms, fans are hopeful for a possible collaboration in the future. While neither artist has confirmed plans for a new joint project, Reekado’s tone suggests that the door is open.
For now, it appears that both artists have grown from the experience and have chosen unity over division in an industry often marked by ego clashes and social media spats.
