Popular Nigerian singer Reekado Banks has revealed that he is no longer certain about marrying his fiancée, who is also the mother of his child.
This statement comes barely two months after he publicly declared his intentions to marry her.
A sudden change of heart
Reekado, whose real name is Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, made the surprising revelation during a recent appearance on TVC’s “Interview with Esther Oye.”
In the session, the award-winning artist admitted that while he was confident about marrying his partner during an earlier interview, he no longer feels the same way.
“I was pretty sure about my stance at my last interview, but I’m now in a different place,” he said. “It’s only been two months since that conversation. That’s why I said I can’t say anything about it now. I was sure then, but I’m not sure now.”
The singer pointed to his personal development and emotional maturity as reasons behind the change. “I wouldn’t blame it on music,” he said. “I’d blame it on myself and my emotional intelligence, which I’m still working on.”
Reekado Banks announced in May
Back in May 2025, Reekado made headlines when he announced that he was planning to tie the knot with his longtime partner. The declaration came during an interview in which he expressed strong confidence about taking the next step in their relationship.
His fans and followers were thrilled at the news, especially after the couple had welcomed their first child together, a baby boy, in November 2024. The announcement sparked congratulations across social media, with many praising the singer for embracing fatherhood and committing to building a family.
In December, just weeks after the birth of their son, Reekado was seen publicly with his partner for the first time. The couple attended a public event together, fueling even more speculation that wedding bells were around the corner.
Emotional intelligence and personal growth
However, Reekado’s recent remarks suggest that he is taking a more cautious approach to matters of the heart. He emphasised that his new position is based on recent personal experiences and growth.
The 30-year-old singer explained that while his music career demands a lot of time and energy, his doubts are rooted in his struggles with emotional understanding and relationship management.
“I’m not trying to dodge responsibility,” he said. “I just feel like I need more time to develop myself emotionally before making such a lifelong commitment. It’s not something I want to rush.”
He acknowledged the importance of being honest with himself and his partner. “It’s better to be unsure now than to act certain and get it wrong later,” he added.
Fans react to his honesty
Reekado’s candidness has sparked a range of reactions online. While some fans applauded him for being truthful and prioritising emotional maturity, others expressed disappointment at the sudden U-turn.
Still, many agreed that personal growth should never be rushed, especially when it involves the future of a child and a lifelong partnership.
“I respect him more for admitting he’s not ready,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “It takes courage to say that publicly.”
Another user added, “Relationships are not just about love, they’re about timing, communication, and emotional growth. Reekado is showing that he’s aware of that.”
Looking ahead
Though Reekado Banks has stepped back from his earlier wedding plans, he made it clear that he remains devoted to co-parenting and maintaining a strong relationship with the mother of his child.
He did not reveal whether the couple had broken up or simply decided to slow things down. For now, he says he is focusing on becoming a better version of himself, both as a father and as a partner.
Fans will likely continue to watch closely as the story unfolds. But for now, Reekado Banks seems more interested in self-awareness than ceremony.
