The officers reportedly responsible for attacking popular actor and skit maker Ganiyu Morufu, known as Ijoba Lande, are currently in police custody, following his allegations of assault and robbery by Nigerian Police personnel.
The development was confirmed via a tweet on X by Lagos Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi on Saturday, in response to posts about the incident that occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026.
“The officers involved have been identified and brought forward to the command for investigation. At the moment, both the officers, the actor, and his friend are giving their statements. Further developments will be communicated accordingly,” Adebisi wrote.
A video shared on X showed Ijoba Lande seated in the passenger seat of a car, bleeding from the left side of his face and displaying multiple bruises. In the clip, he cried out in Yoruba, “I want to drink water,” while those around him tried to calm him and suggested filing an official report at the police station.
A man in the background claimed that officers from Area J police station were responsible, repeatedly stating, “Area J, Area J police station,” and accusing them of performing a “wrong job.” By the end of the video, the group appeared to have reached a police station, with Ijoba Lande looking calmer.
The video’s caption revealed that the actor was robbed during the incident, losing his iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200 belonging to his brother. It read, “I came back from the UK 6 days ago and was attacked and beaten by police in Nigeria. They collected my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life.”
Attempts to contact Ijoba Lande directly and through his manager were unsuccessful. Earlier, the Police Complaint Response Unit had requested his contact details for investigation, tweeting:
“Dear @Alpha_Yom, thank you for contacting NPF-CRU. @metronaija, kindly avail this unit with the contact of the victim for further investigation. #NoToImpunity”
