Popular TikTok creator and livestreamer Hamzat Habeeb, known online as Peller, has drawn widespread criticism and concern after crashing his car while broadcasting live from the Lekki–Epe Expressway in Lagos.
The incident happened on Sunday during an Instagram livestream titled “RIP Peller,” which has since gone viral. The footage showed the influencer alone in his recently acquired Mercedes-Benz, visibly emotional and distressed.
Throughout the broadcast, Peller appeared to be in tears while speaking on the phone with someone believed to be his girlfriend, Jarvis, amid speculation about a possible breakup. At several moments, he made alarming remarks, including, “I will use this car and have an accident right now,” and later, “I’m scared. I’m scared.”
Viewers were further unsettled when he said, “If you break up with me, people will be mocking me… Thank you, I’m going to kill myself.”
Shortly after these statements, the livestream showed him driving to another section of the road and deliberately crashing the car into a stone, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle.
Subsequent clips shared online showed bystanders assisting him at the scene before he was taken to a hospital. As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation of the extent of his injuries.
The incident has sparked intense reactions online, with many expressing concern for his mental state and condemning the act as dangerous. Several users called on the Federal Road Safety Corps to investigate, stressing that the livestream endangered not only Peller but also other road users.
While some social media users suggested the crash may have been staged for content, others insisted that there should be consequences for what they described as reckless behaviour during a live broadcast.
As at press time, neither Peller nor any relevant authorities had released an official statement on the incident.
