Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has shared the fascinating story behind the origin of his unique stage name.
In a recent interview with BET Network, the chart-topping artist explained that the name was born out of a childhood incident that unexpectedly defined his artistic identity.
According to Odumodublvck, the name “Odumodu” first came up when he tried to scare someone as a young boy, leading to an offhand remark that stuck with him. “Odumodu means masquerade,” he explained.

“So I tried to scare someone, and he called me that name, and I was like, ‘no, don’t call me that.’ You know, it’s that name you don’t want to be called.”
What started as a teasing nickname eventually became a lifelong tag, thanks to a moment involving his mother. The rapper recounted how his classmates began calling him “Odumodu,” and the name spread so much that it reached his family.
“One day, my mom came to visit me in school, and they were like, ‘yo, Odumodu’s mom is around,’ and she’s like, ‘who’s that?’ And I’m like, ‘that’s what it is,’” he said. “Then I started making music.”
Before adopting the distinctive name, Odumodublvck went by another moniker, which he now admits was unremarkable.
“The name I had first was T Flows – whack name,” he said with a laugh. “There are probably like a hundred thousand T Flows in the world, but there’s only one Odumodublvck.”
The rapper revealed that choosing to stick with the name “Odumodublvck” was a deliberate decision, one that reflected his desire to stand out in the music industry. Despite the initial mockery from his friends, he said he knew the name had something special.
“When I told my friends that my name’s going to be Odumodu Blvck, they started laughing. I said, ‘yes, that’s the point. That’s the name there.’”
Odumodublvck’s confidence in his identity has since become one of his defining traits as an artist.
Known for his fierce authenticity, street-inspired lyrics, and fusion of hip-hop with Afrocentric influences, the rapper has become one of the most talked-about voices in Nigeria’s contemporary music scene.
His breakout single, Declan Rice and subsequent hits have cemented his reputation as a force of originality and creativity.
