Nigerian businessman and nightlife entrepreneur Obi Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has advised young people to concentrate on personal growth and resist the temptation to compare themselves with others.
In a motivational message shared on Instagram, the billionaire urged Nigerian youth to avoid envy, jealousy, and needless competition, whether online or in real life. He warned that such negative attitudes waste valuable time and slow personal progress.
“Dear youth, never feel intimidated about what you see online and in real life. Let it motivate you to step up your game,” Obi Cubana wrote.
He stressed the importance of staying focused and using one’s energy productively. According to him, unhealthy comparisons often lead to frustration, while self-discipline and dedication open doors to success. “Never hate on or fight someone you know nothing about because of envy, gossip, jealousy, or unnecessary competition,” he said.

Addressing a common belief in Nigeria, Obi Cubana also spoke against the assumption that all wealthy individuals acquired their wealth through criminal activity. He called the idea “the greatest lie from the pit of hell,” insisting that many people have built “solid wealth” through honest work.
“Never get too laid back because you feel every rich person must have committed crime,” he wrote. “Opportunities abound. Look for them and make the very best of them.”
The entrepreneur encouraged young people to search for genuine opportunities, work hard, and remain determined. He reminded them that it is never too late to start pursuing their goals. “Today’s still early,” he added, urging them to take action rather than make excuses.
Obi Cubana’s message comes at a time when social media culture often fuels comparison and unrealistic expectations among young people. Many youths measure success by the luxurious lifestyles they see online, without knowing the hard work and persistence behind the scenes.
By sharing his perspective, the businessman hopes to shift attention away from jealousy and competition toward inspiration and self-improvement. He wants young Nigerians to see wealth as an achievable goal through legitimate means, rather than a privilege reserved for the corrupt or the lucky.
Obi Cubana, who rose to national fame in 2021 after the lavish burial of his mother in Oba, Anambra State, has built a reputation as both a successful entrepreneur and a motivational figure. Through his hospitality and entertainment ventures, he has created employment opportunities and inspired many with his rags-to-riches story.
His latest message reinforces his long-standing belief that success is the product of vision, consistency, and integrity. For him, the path to wealth begins with the right mindset, free of bitterness or resentment toward others.
As he summed up in his post, “There are a whole lot of legitimate people out here swimming in wealth, solid wealth. Thank me later.”
