Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has cleared the air on the confusion surrounding reports of actor Ibrahim Chatta’s recent bereavement.
On Saturday, Chatta announced on his Instagram page that he had suffered a painful loss. In his post, he described the deceased as his “son,” which immediately led many to believe that he had lost his biological child.
The post quickly drew a wave of condolences from fans, colleagues, and industry friends, with many expressing shock and sadness over the tragic news.
Among those who initially sympathised with him was actress Opeyemi Aiyeola. She shared her grief and offered prayers for divine comfort for Chatta and his family.
However, in a fresh Instagram update, Aiyeola explained that the late boy was not Chatta’s biological child but rather his godson, a young boy the actor loved deeply and treated as his own.
“Ibrahim Chatta didn’t lose his biological son but a godson, who is also like a son to him. May his pure soul continue to rest peacefully. It’s been an extremely emotional ride so far. God have mercy,” Aiyeola wrote.

A quick check on Ibrahim Chatta’s Instagram page confirmed the clarification. The actor has since edited his original post to specify that the deceased was his godson, not his biological son.
The initial misunderstanding highlights how expressions of love and grief on social media can sometimes lead to misinterpretation. Chatta’s heartfelt message, though sincere, left many of his followers confused until the clarification was made public.
Ibrahim Chatta, widely respected in the Yoruba movie industry, has often spoken about his close relationship with children he mentors and supports. Friends and colleagues say his godson was particularly dear to him, making the loss just as painful as if it were his own child.
The clarification has eased some of the earlier concern but has not reduced the sympathy pouring in for the grieving actor.
Fans and fellow stars continue to send prayers and words of encouragement, recognizing the depth of his pain and the bond he shared with the boy.
The incident also underscores how public figures often face added challenges when dealing with grief in the digital age.
Posts shared in moments of sorrow can spread rapidly, sometimes creating confusion before the full context is understood.
For now, both Chatta and his supporters are focused on honoring the memory of the late godson, while also finding strength in the love and solidarity shown by fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry.
