American rapper Nicki Minaj has appealed to fans to be more understanding and compassionate toward Nigerian artists who have faced heavy backlash in recent days.
New Daily Prime reports that several Nigerian entertainers came under intense scrutiny this week, with social media users accusing them of being insensitive or out of touch with the country’s worsening insecurity.
Burna Boy became the centre of online criticism after he “jokingly” declared that he wanted “only rich fans,” a remark many Nigerians described as arrogant and dismissive.

Yemi Alade also faced attacks after she pushed back against calls for American intervention in Nigeria’s escalating security crisis, arguing that foreign involvement would not solve the problem.
Other celebrities were criticised for posting unrelated content on social media shortly after two major tragedies, the deadly attack on a church in Kwara State and the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
Reacting to the wave of criticism, Nicki Minaj urged fans to approach Nigerian artists with more patience, wisdom, and compassion.
She said many of the attacks lacked balance and failed to consider the pressures and complexities surrounding public figures.
On her X handle, she wrote:
“My darlings, let’s utilize wisdom & compassion as it relates to our Nigerian artists. There are very logical reasons for most things when we look not to judge, but to comprehend.
“That goes for every country & their artists. Let’s lift them up & continue to use wisdom.”
Minaj suggested that critics would gain a better understanding if they engaged artists from a place of comprehension rather than judgment.
The rapper has earned praise from many Nigerians in the past week for speaking out on the rise of jihadist attacks targeting Christians in Nigeria.
During a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday, where she appeared alongside global diplomats and human rights advocates, Minaj called for swift global action to curb terrorist violence in the country.
She also stressed the need for peace, unity, and freedom of worship.
Her remarks sparked widespread conversation online, with many Nigerians applauding her for using her platform to highlight a crisis that has often been ignored internationally.
