Award-winning rapper Nicki Minaj has publicly accused billionaire hip-hop mogul Jay-Z of owing her a staggering sum in unpaid earnings.
In a bold post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the “Anaconda” star claimed Jay-Z owes her between $100 million and $200 million.
Minaj called on the Roc Nation founder to resolve what she described as a “karmic debt.” She warned that the amount owed continues to grow due to accumulating interest.
Nicki Minaj post sparks online buzz
In her post, Minaj didn’t hold back. She wrote:
“We’ve calculated about 100-200MM so far. #JayZ call me to settle this karmic debt. It’s only collecting more interest. You’re still in my Top 5, tho. Let’s get it, nigga.”
The statement quickly went viral, sparking conversations among fans and music industry insiders. While Minaj’s post was laced with humour and a touch of admiration, the core of her message was unmistakable: she wants her money.
Allegations tied to tidal equity dispute
This is not the first time Minaj has hinted at financial unfairness involving Jay-Z. She has repeatedly suggested that the alleged debt is linked to the sale of Tidal, a music streaming platform co-owned by several top artists, including herself and Jay-Z.
Minaj reportedly believes she was shortchanged when Tidal was sold to Square Inc. (now known as Block Inc.) in 2021. The deal, worth nearly $300 million, was widely seen as a major business move by Jay-Z, but some artists involved, like Minaj, may not have received payouts in line with their equity stakes.
Although specific details of the ownership shares have remained private, Minaj appears convinced that she is entitled to a large sum that was never paid out during or after the acquisition.
Jay-Z remains silent
As of the time of writing, Jay-Z has not responded to the allegations. His representatives have also declined to comment. The music mogul is known for staying silent during public controversies and rarely engages in social media feuds.
This silence has left many fans wondering if a legal move or public clarification may be on the horizon. Some observers have speculated that Minaj’s post could be a pressure tactic to prompt a private settlement.
Industry reactions and fan support
Minaj’s bold move has drawn mixed reactions. While many fans praised her courage to speak out, others questioned the timing and the public nature of the accusation.
Still, loyal followers backed her call for transparency and fairness in music business dealings. The post has also reignited debates around how artist equity is handled in large tech or corporate acquisitions involving entertainment platforms.
A complicated relationship
Despite the serious tone of her claim, Minaj made it clear she still holds Jay-Z in high regard. Referring to him as one of her “Top 5” rappers, she maintained a sense of respect while demanding accountability.
This suggests that while there may be tension over money, Minaj isn’t necessarily burning bridges, yet. The mention of “karmic debt” also indicates she may see the issue as one of principle, not just finances.
