Nigerian senator and businessman Ned Nwoko has publicly refuted long-standing claims suggesting that he married popular Nollywood actress Regina Daniels when she was only 17 years old.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the Delta North lawmaker described the reports as false, malicious, and deliberately misleading, insisting that the truth about his wife’s age is “verifiable and indisputable.”
According to Nwoko, during his first encounter with Regina, he asked about her age, and she confidently told him that she was 21 years old.

To substantiate her claim, he said Regina presented her INEC voter’s card, which indicated that she was born on October 10, 1998.
“I further asked if she had any document to support this, and she presented her INEC voter’s card, which clearly shows that she was born on October 10th, 1998. I informed her that I would keep this document in my possession, and I have done so since that day,” Nwoko wrote.
The senator explained that this document has remained in his custody since their marriage, serving as evidence against widespread misinformation. He also referenced a BBC interview granted by Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, shortly after the wedding, noting that her remarks at the time were consistent with the official records.
Reiterating his position, Nwoko stressed that his marriage to Regina took place six years ago, meaning that if she was truly born in 1998, she would now be 27 years old.
“Any suggestion that I married her at 17 is false and should not be accepted by the public,” he added.
The statement comes amid renewed public interest in the couple’s union following their ongoing marital dispute, which has dominated headlines in recent weeks. Regina Daniels had earlier accused Nwoko of domestic violence and intimidation, announcing that she was no longer interested in the marriage.
In response, the senator denied the allegations and accused the actress of substance abuse, claiming she had abandoned a rehabilitation programme. In his latest post, Nwoko again referenced her alleged struggles, urging the public to treat her statements with “caution and discernment.”
“It is important that the public does not fall for false narratives. Regina has been struggling with her mental condition following her abandoned rehabilitation from illegal drug addiction,” he stated.
The renewed controversy has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating the authenticity of Nwoko’s claims and the true circumstances surrounding his marriage to the actress.
As of the time of filing this report, Regina Daniels and her representatives have not issued any public statement responding to the senator’s latest claims.
The unfolding situation continues to draw significant public interest, with both parties’ revelations fuelling one of the most talked-about celebrity controversies in Nigeria’s entertainment and political circles this year.
