Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, has denied claims that he married his estranged wife, Regina Daniels, when she was still a minor, insisting that the actress was 19 years old at the time of their marriage.
The lawmaker clarified in response to widespread criticism and controversy surrounding his six-year marriage to the Nollywood actress, which recently broke down amid accusations of domestic violence and substance abuse.
New Daily Prime recalls that Regina Daniels had accused Nwoko of domestic abuse and announced that she was no longer interested in continuing the marriage.

In reaction, the senator alleged that Regina was battling substance abuse and insisted that she must undergo rehabilitation. This statement fuelled intense public debate and divided opinion across social media.
The controversy deepened as several Nigerians, including celebrities, called for Nwoko’s resignation from the Senate, alleging that he married Regina when she was 17 years old.
However, in a statement issued through his Communication and Technical Action Team and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nwoko refuted the allegations, stressing that he never pursued Regina for marriage and that her mother, Rita Daniels, introduced her to him.
“For clarity, Regina Daniels was born October 10, 2000. If she has been married to me for six years, that means she married at 19 and not 17,” the statement read.
“The public witnessed her family giving her away in marriage. There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally brought her to me. I never went after her.”
Nwoko maintained that his marriage to Regina followed due traditional processes and that all necessary rites were publicly performed with her family’s full consent.
The renewed attention on the couple’s relationship follows a string of public accusations, court cases, and social media exchanges between both parties, drawing significant public interest and reigniting the national conversation on underage marriage, celebrity relationships, and accountability among public officials.
