Popular Nigerian skitmaker and musician, Lawal Nasiru, better known as Nasboi, has stirred reactions online after revealing that he identifies as both a Muslim and a Christian.
The comedian, known for his witty skits and humorous takes on social issues, made the revelation in a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he reflected on his multicultural and multi-religious background.
According to Nasboi, his upbringing exposed him to both religions, as his father is a Yoruba Muslim, while his mother is a Christian from Warri, Delta State. This, he said, shaped his open-minded approach to faith and life.

“My papa Yoruba, my mama Warri. My papa Muslim, my mama Christian. I was born and raised in Port Harcourt. I studied at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom. This is why I can never relate to tribalism or all the religious agendas,” he wrote.
The comedian, who often uses his platform to promote unity and social awareness, said his exposure to diverse cultures and beliefs makes it impossible for him to harbour religious or ethnic bias.
When a curious fan asked him directly about his religion, Nasboi responded with humour and self-assurance, saying:
“I am Christmus [both Christian and Muslim].”
His post quickly went viral, sparking a wave of mixed reactions across social media. While some users praised him for promoting tolerance and inclusivity, others criticised his stance, arguing that one cannot practice both religions simultaneously.
Despite the backlash, several of Nasboi’s supporters defended him, saying his statement was more symbolic than literal. They argued that his message was about love, harmony, and mutual respect across faiths rather than an attempt to merge doctrines.
Born in Port Harcourt, Nasboi is known for his versatility as both a comedian and musician.
Over time, he has built a reputation for blending humour with commentary on national issues such as poverty, insecurity, and youth struggles.
The entertainer has also ventured into music, releasing songs like Umbrella featuring Wande Coal, and has gained a following for his ability to seamlessly switch between comedy and music.
By identifying as “Christmus,” Nasboi joins a growing number of Nigerian entertainers who advocate for religious tolerance and coexistence, particularly in a nation often polarized by faith-based and ethnic sentiments.
While his post may have divided opinions, it has also earned him praise for courageously addressing a sensitive topic in a lighthearted but meaningful way.
For Nasboi, faith appears to be less about labels and more about humanity, understanding, and respect, values he believes every Nigerian should embrace.
