Renowned Nigerian rapper and music executive, M.I Abaga, has said he would prefer to raise his future children in Nigeria because of the country’s strong sense of family and community.
Speaking in a recent interview, the hip-hop star explained that Nigeria provides a more supportive environment for parenting compared to some Western countries, particularly because of its communal culture.
“There are a lot of things appealing about home, especially because we’re already ingrained in that system. There’s a lot of support as well. I feel it’s very difficult for parents here,” M.I said.

He emphasized that in Nigeria, relatives and extended family members often play an important role in helping to raise children, making parenting a shared responsibility.
“If you have family, now you have enough people that can stay at home and support you. But it’s not easy, man,” he added.
The rapper contrasted this with life abroad, especially in the United States, where he said parents often struggle due to busy work schedules and the absence of close family networks. According to him, raising children in such settings can be isolating and demanding.
M.I also acknowledged the advantages of raising kids overseas, such as access to better infrastructure and educational opportunities, but maintained that Nigeria offers a more solid foundation for children to understand their identity, values, and cultural heritage.
He explained that exposing children to their roots first would help them appreciate their background before gaining international exposure.
Although M.I clarified that he is not yet making concrete family plans, he said the close-knit culture and collective support system in Nigeria remain some of the country’s greatest strengths when it comes to family life.
The rapper, who has long been vocal about his pride in Nigerian culture and heritage, concluded by emphasizing the importance of nurturing children in an environment that teaches respect, togetherness, and identity.
