The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as Kwam 1 De Ultimate, was involved in a disruptive incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
In a statement released on Wednesday, FAAN disclosed that the music icon allegedly spilt alcohol on an aviation security officer who attempted to inspect the contents of a flask he was carrying. The incident occurred on August 5 at the domestic terminal and has since led to the suspension of two ValueJet pilots.
According to FAAN, Ayinde, who was scheduled to fly from Abuja to Lagos aboard ValueJet Flight VK 201, violated aviation safety protocols when he refused to comply with standard security checks involving liquids onboard.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had earlier announced the suspension of the two ValueJet pilots for initiating departure procedures without receiving the required pre-departure clearance. While the NCAA did not mention the musician directly, reports later revealed that Kwam 1’s disruptive behaviour contributed to the safety breach.

Eyewitness accounts stated that Ayinde was observed drinking from a flask onboard the aircraft. A flight attendant, suspecting the flask contained alcohol, a banned substance on Nigerian flights, alerted the airline’s security personnel. The situation escalated when the security officer requested the musician step aside for further inspection.
FAAN said the artist refused and then poured the flask’s contents, later confirmed to be alcohol, on the officer. The flight captain intervened, but was met with the same resistance. The situation became tense as the musician moved to the front of the aircraft and reportedly refused to vacate the area, delaying flight operations.
The authority explained that the attempt to carry an unidentified liquid on board was in clear violation of international aviation standards, specifically Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) Annex 17, which prohibits carrying liquids exceeding 100ml through security without proper medical justification or declaration.
“The passenger was informed of the regulation but declined to comply,” FAAN stated. “When asked by airline security for clarification, he refused, and in the process, spilt the contents of the flask on the officer.”
The airline’s flight captain eventually ordered the aircraft doors to be closed after confirming all passengers were on board. However, the musician reportedly refused to move from the entrance area despite repeated instructions.
“He was later escorted away by the AVSEC crime unit for further investigation and was eventually released,” the statement added.
FAAN emphasised that it is committed to ensuring that all passengers, regardless of status, comply with aviation safety regulations. The authority stressed that it will not tolerate any action that threatens operational integrity or endangers the safety of airline personnel and passengers.
“This matter remains under investigation,” the agency said. “Anyone found guilty of misconduct will be held accountable according to the law.”
Kwam 1, a legendary figure in the Nigerian music scene, is known for modernising Fuji music and has a loyal fanbase across the country. His involvement in the incident has drawn widespread attention, with many expressing concerns over the conduct of high-profile individuals in public settings.
Meanwhile, ValueJet has not released an official statement on the incident, but insiders suggest the airline is cooperating fully with aviation authorities in the ongoing investigation.
As the probe continues, aviation stakeholders have called for strict enforcement of existing regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure that Nigeria’s airspace remains safe and secure for all.
