Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has shared the secret behind his long-standing success and consistency in the music industry.
The Limpopo crooner explained that his approach to music sets him apart from some of his peers, especially when it comes to handling setbacks.
Speaking on the Selah Meditate Podcast, Kcee opened up about how he deals with challenges in his career. Unlike some artists who retreat or lose confidence when their songs fail to make an impact, Kcee said he doubles his effort and releases even more music. “Some of my colleagues drop a song, and if it doesn’t do well, they go back into their shell and feel sad. But that can’t be me,” he said. “I can drop 22 songs, maybe it is the 25th one that will become a hit. I don’t care because consistency is key.”
Kcee emphasised that staying consistent and persistent has been vital to his career longevity. He revealed that he has gone through difficult periods in the industry, but the public rarely noticed because he always appeared flamboyant and confident in his public appearances.
“The struggles I faced were many, but people rarely saw them because I always presented myself with confidence and energy. You can’t allow challenges to define you,” he said.
The singer also highlighted how positive manifestation and belief in one’s future played a major role in shaping his career. He shared a personal anecdote about his early days with music producer E-Money while living in Ajegunle, a neighborhood in Lagos. Despite their modest beginnings, Kcee said they always spoke about their dreams and ambitions with confidence.
“When E-Money and I were living in Ajegunle, if you asked us where we were staying, we would say Ikeja,” he recalled. “We were not lying or pretending, we were dreaming and prophesying into the future. And that was exactly where we eventually moved to. And we dominated it.”
Kcee attributed much of his success to this mindset of vision, determination, and perseverance. He believes that having a clear goal and speaking positively about the future helped him overcome challenges and achieve his current status in the Nigerian music scene.
Throughout the podcast, he encouraged upcoming artists to remain consistent and resilient. He advised them not to be discouraged by failures but to keep producing music and pursuing their dreams.
According to Kcee, the key to a lasting career lies in persistence, hard work, and the ability to keep moving forward, even when things seem difficult.
Industry observers note that Kcee’s career has indeed been marked by consistency. From his early days with the group P-Square to his solo achievements, he has managed to maintain relevance and deliver hits across decades.
His story serves as a reminder that talent alone is not enough; hard work, strategy, and belief in oneself are equally important.
By sharing his journey and philosophy, Kcee offered insight into the mindset required to thrive in a competitive music industry. His combination of resilience, consistency, and positive manifestation continues to inspire both fans and fellow artists alike.
