Popular but controversial Nigerian streamer, Peller, says he has been receiving death threats after speaking out against a trending challenge on TikTok.
The content creator made this shocking claim during a recent livestream. He revealed that unknown individuals had warned him to watch his back or face the same fate as another popular streamer, Oloba Salo, who was shot in Lagos last year.
Peller’s troubles began after he urged Nigerians to stop participating in the viral #30DayRants challenge on TikTok.
The challenge encourages citizens to post daily videos criticising the government and speaking out against bad governance.
Many young Nigerians have used it as a platform to vent their anger over the country’s leadership, economic hardship, and insecurity.
Peller warns of possible TikTok ban
However, Peller asked Nigerians to stop the trend. He warned that if it continued, the Nigerian government might see it as a threat and decide to ban TikTok in the country. He argued that such a ban would affect content creators like him who earn a living from the platform.
His comments did not go down well with many Nigerians. Soon after his appeal, Peller faced serious backlash online. Social media users accused him of siding with politicians and trying to silence the voices of suffering Nigerians. They argued that he was more concerned about protecting his source of income than supporting the fight for better leadership.
Death threats and fears for safety
The backlash quickly escalated. Some users flooded his social media pages with insults and harsh criticism. Others took it a step further by sending him direct threats.
During his latest livestream, Peller said he feared for his safety. He claimed that some people had compared him to Oloba Salo, a fellow content creator who was shot in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in 2023. The attack on Salo shocked many in the Nigerian entertainment space, and Peller now believes he might be next.

“I have been receiving death threats,” Peller said. “Some people threatened to shoot me like they shot Salo in Lekki Phase 1. They told me to watch my back whenever I step out.”
Peller appeared visibly shaken during the livestream. He expressed frustration over the situation and said he no longer wanted to comment on the matter. Before ending the stream, he said, “What is all this? I’m not talking again. Goodbye.”
Mixed reactions from the public
The threats against Peller have sparked mixed reactions online. Some people condemned the threats and called for calm, reminding others that everyone has a right to express their opinions. Others, however, argued that Peller should have expected the backlash because he spoke against a movement that gives ordinary Nigerians a voice.
Meanwhile, the #30DayRants challenge continues to trend on TikTok and other social media platforms. Thousands of young Nigerians are still participating, sharing daily videos criticising the government and calling for change. Many say the challenge has given them a way to speak out in a country where freedom of speech is often under threat.
Calls for investigation and safety measures
Security experts have also weighed in on the matter. Some have urged the authorities to investigate the threats against Peller and ensure his safety. They warned that online disagreements should not lead to violence or threats of harm.
As the controversy grows, it highlights the growing tension between freedom of expression, digital activism, and personal safety in Nigeria’s online space.
