Grammy nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr who has never been in a totally committed relationship, has stated that when she does start dating, it will not be with someone from the music profession.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, American singer Coco Jones was asked if she would date someone in the profession.
“In the dream world, it wouldn’t be somebody that is in the industry. Probably just like a billionaire. On a yacht. In Dubai. In a thong,” Ayra Starr replied in between fits of laughter. Her response was a nod to a viral social media sound about living the stress-free, soft life.
The Rush singer said that her dating standards are really high.
She said, “I’m so happy I wasn’t really dating before I started music. I didn’t really know what I was missing. So now that I waited this long to date people, I have very high standards. If it’s gonna be hard to meet it, it’s gonna be bye-bye. But also, I don’t have time for myself; talk less of a boy.”
In a recent interview with Dazed Magazine in September 2024, the singer acknowledged her desire for a relationship.
“I want to fall in love. I wrote ‘Lagos Love Story’ about what love would look like if I was,” Ayra Starr shared. While she described herself as a lover girl deep in her heart, she also confessed that she is very single.
Ayra Starr clarified that she has never been in a fully committed relationship. “I’m just very strong-headed about it. I actually have never been in love…I’ve been in certain situations not situationships!—but I’ve never been in a fully committed relationship.”
Ayra Starr recently discussed how making Nigerian cuisine is important in her life, particularly while travelling.
The singer, who has always been vocal about her love of Nigerian food, particularly yam and egg, has stated that she prefers home-cooked meals while on tour. During an interactive interview with fellow singer Coco Jones, the two talked about their music, career advancement, and even their favourite ways to unwind after hectic days.
Ayra Starr shared that cooking brings her a sense of tranquility and grounding. She expressed that she enjoys preparing her own meals, often opting to stay in serviced apartments where she has the opportunity to cook. For her, the act of cooking is a way to unwind, even after a long day of work, regardless of how late it gets. It serves as a form of relaxation that helps her feel centered and at peace.
“Sometimes I just want to eat my food, and sometimes I try to stay in serviced apartments whenever I can so that I can cook. I feel like that keeps me and centres me. So even if I’m tired from a shoe and it’s late, even if it’s 9, 10, or 11 p.m., cooking is relaxing for me.”
The singer added that even when her job becomes difficult, her family and friends understand and help her stay grounded.
She explained, “Thank God for my friends, they don’t leave me alone. We have group chats, and I still try to involve them in my life, but they get it. Sometimes I just disappear when it becomes overwhelming.”
The New Daily Prime recalls the Mavin star has achieved two billion Spotify streams across all credits.
Kworb, a Spotify data aggregation tool, stated that Ayra had just crossed 2 billion streams as of October 10, 2024.
This comes months after she released her second album, ‘The Year I Turned 21,’ which has over 500 million Spotify streams.
Wizkid, CKay, and Davido have over 2 billion Spotify streams across all credits.
The announcement occurred a few hours after Ayra received four nominations for the 2024 MTV EMAs.
