Gospel singer Eben has revealed that he was withdrawn from a church programme after members of the church committee objected to his appearance in shredded denim jeans on his album cover.
Speaking during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, the singer said the decision came as a shock, especially as all arrangements for the event had already been concluded before the issue was raised.
According to Eben, the organisers contacted him after spotting his album artwork, where he wore ripped jeans, which the church committee described as inappropriate for a Christian minister.

“They had already invited me for their convention and everything was set. Then they saw my album artwork where I wore a shredded denim jean,” he explained.
Eben added that the organiser sounded upset while relaying the committee’s decision, noting that the outfit did not align with their expectations of how a minister should appear.
“The organiser called me and said the committee felt they could not accept me as a minister because of the type of jeans I was wearing. They said it wasn’t suitable for a Christian,” he said.
The gospel singer stressed that the jeans were not revealing or offensive, expressing disappointment that his appearance overshadowed his years of ministry and message.
Reflecting on his over 20 years of service, Eben noted that people often focus more on outward appearance than on faith, character, or spiritual impact.
He urged churches to prioritise sincere worship and spiritual guidance over clothing choices, stressing that true ministry is about leading people closer to God rather than judging how they dress.
