The ongoing dispute between May Yul-Edochie, estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, and her former lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye has taken a more dramatic turn.
On Friday, Ugwuonye took to his Facebook page to share private conversations he allegedly had with May during her divorce proceedings. He posted screenshots of chats, claiming they showed how he guided and supported her while handling her case.
According to him, he treated May with “first-class” attention, only to be betrayed in return. He accused her of being dishonest and manipulative, describing her as a “liar” and a “fake person.”
Ugwuonye warned that he could release even more damaging information if pushed further.
“If you see the chats between us, you will understand how fake May is and what a terrible liar she is. All those who believe her are just pitiable,” he wrote.
“Can you see how I was guiding her on when to get to court? I gave this woman first-class treatment. I would send her the Cause List and guide her so she would not wait long before her case would be called.”

His outburst comes only days after May, through her legal representatives at Graylaw Partners, issued a cease-and-desist notice against him.
In the notice, she accused Ugwuonye of cyberbullying, defamation, and cyberstalking through repeated online posts targeting her character and reputation.
The notice demanded that Ugwuonye stop making malicious statements against her, warning that further legal steps would be taken if the harassment continued.
This latest twist has further fueled public interest in May’s ongoing divorce from Yul Edochie, which has been marked by controversy and heavy media coverage.
May has often portrayed herself as a woman standing strong amid personal betrayal, gaining public sympathy and support from fans who admire her resilience.
Ugwuonye’s accusations, however, attempt to cast doubt on that image. By releasing the alleged chats, he suggested that May had deliberately misled the public and was not as truthful as she appeared.
The conflict has divided opinions online. While some commentators criticised Ugwuonye for breaching professional trust by exposing private conversations with a former client, others argued that the lawyer may be trying to defend his own reputation after May’s legal notice painted him in a negative light.

Observers note that this clash also raises wider concerns about professional ethics in Nigeria’s legal practice, particularly regarding confidentiality between lawyers and their clients. For many, Ugwuonye’s decision to publicise private communications crosses a sensitive line.
Meanwhile, May has yet to directly respond to the latest allegations. Her camp has remained silent on Ugwuonye’s Facebook posts, focusing instead on the legal warning already served.
As the drama unfolds, it is unclear whether more private details will be released or if the matter will now shift fully into the courtroom.
What remains certain is that the rift between May Edochie and Emeka Ugwuonye has deepened, drawing intense public scrutiny into what has already been a highly publicised separation.
