Veteran Nollywood actress Dupe Jayesimi has shared her emotional struggle with childlessness at 60, opening up about her pain, loneliness, and heartbreak.
In a heartfelt interview on the “Talk to B” podcast, she spoke openly about her pain, loneliness, and shattered dreams of motherhood.
During the interview, Jayesimi reflected on her marital journey and the heartbreaking loss of her first pregnancy. She revealed that she married in 1988 but suffered a miscarriage shortly after.
A lonely 60th birthday
The actress described how painful it felt to mark her milestone 60th birthday without children to celebrate her. She recalled watching how other parents were honored by their children on special occasions, something she never experienced.
“Nobody celebrated me on my 60th birthday,” she said. “I know how children rejoice over their parents. But I have none to celebrate me or throw a party for me.”
Instead, she took matters into her own hands. She gave money to someone to prepare food and share it in her name. Then, overwhelmed by emotions, she checked into a hotel and spent days crying alone.
The painful journey to motherhood
Jayesimi revealed that before her marriage, she was already pregnant. However, she lost the baby just weeks after her wedding. Doctors later told her that a medical procedure could improve her chances of conceiving.
She informed her husband about the procedure, and he agreed. But after the operation, he disappeared for three months. When he finally returned, he dropped a devastating bombshell.
“He told me to pack my things and leave,” she recalled. “He had already started distancing himself and even divided our bed with pillows.”
Betrayal and heartbreak
Just two weeks after their separation, Jayesimi discovered that her husband had married another woman. Even more shocking, his new wife was already pregnant.
Reflecting on her past, Jayesimi spoke of the deep emotional scars left by her failed marriage and the dream of motherhood that never came true. Despite her struggles, she continues to find strength in her career and faith.
Her story sheds light on the silent battles many women face when dealing with infertility and societal expectations.
