DJ Tunez, the official disc jockey for Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, has revealed that his toughest challenge in the music industry has nothing to do with touring or producing songs.
Instead, it’s about mending fences between two of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, Wizkid and Davido.
During a recent livestream on X (formerly Twitter), DJ Tunez got candid with his followers. He was asked about the most difficult moment in his career. His answer was both honest and surprising.
“My biggest challenge?” he repeated. “Making Wizkid and Davido love each other. That’s my biggest challenge.”
Tunez admitted that building a lasting friendship between the two Afrobeats icons has proven to be an uphill task. Despite being close to both artists at different points in their careers, he confessed that getting them on the same page has never been easy.
“I just want peace between them,” he added, noting how much he believes a friendship or even a genuine truce between Wizkid and Davido could do for the music industry.
Wizkid and Davido are arguably two of the most successful and influential artists to emerge from Nigeria in the past decade. Both have built massive fanbases around the world and helped put Afrobeats on the global stage. But their relationship has been anything but smooth.
The rivalry between them dates back years and has often played out in public. They have exchanged jabs in interviews, lyrics, and more famously, on social media.
In October 2024, their feud flared up again. The two stars exchanged a series of heated words online, reigniting conversations about their long-standing beef. Fans quickly took sides, fueling further drama on social platforms.
Industry insiders have expressed disappointment over the ongoing rift. Many believe that collaboration, rather than conflict, would better serve the Afrobeats movement, which continues to grow internationally.
Several key players in the music scene have stepped in, hoping to end the feud. Singer Iyanya and music executive Asa Asika are among those who have urged both Wizkid and Davido to set their differences aside and collaborate. They argue that unity between the two artists would be a powerful statement, one that could push the Afrobeats genre even further.
DJ Tunez believes in mutual respect
DJ Tunez echoed similar thoughts in his livestream. He stressed that he wasn’t trying to force a friendship, but he believes that mutual respect and peace are crucial, not just for the artists involved, but for the entire industry.
“I think if they really sat down and talked, they’d see how much more powerful they’d be together,” he said.
As Afrobeats continues to expand its reach globally, many are hopeful that Nigeria’s two biggest music exports can find common ground. And for DJ Tunez, that hope remains one of his biggest personal goals.
