Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya has dismissed viral claims that Fuji singer Abass Akande Obesere, popularly known as Obesere, is her biological father.
The rumour, which circulated widely on social media over the weekend, alleged that the actress had opened up emotionally after years of keeping the supposed relationship a secret.

The claim quickly gained traction online, drawing reactions from fans and commentators.
However, Debbie moved swiftly to set the record straight. In a video shared on her Instagram page on Monday, she firmly denied the allegation and described it as false and misleading.
According to her, she has never had any form of contact with Obesere. She expressed frustration over how quickly the rumour spread and criticised those who shared the claim without verifying its authenticity.
“It is not funny anymore; the news is everywhere,” she said. “I have never met Obesere before, and you claim I said he’s my biological father?”
Furthermore, the actress questioned the logic behind the claim, pointing out that she bears a strong resemblance to her actual father. She insisted that there was no truth to the story and urged the public to disregard it.
“Don’t I look like my father? Am I not my biological father’s replica?” she asked.
Debbie also used the opportunity to call out bloggers and social media users who amplified the report. She accused them of spreading misinformation and contributing to unnecessary backlash.
“Obesere is not my biological father. Please stop spreading fake news,” she stated. “Stop writing or posting things I never said.”
In addition, she expressed concern about the reactions that followed the viral claim. According to her, some online commentators failed to verify the information before responding, leading to insults and negative remarks directed at her.
“Some commentators do not even think well enough to know that these things are fake; they start to throw abuses,” she said.
The actress further clarified that she never made any statement or emotional appeal as claimed in the reports. She stressed that the entire story was fabricated and had no basis in reality.
“I’ve never said or written this, nor did I cry out as they claimed,” she added.
Moreover, she urged media platforms and bloggers to give equal attention to correcting the misinformation. She called on them to share her clarification with the same urgency they used in spreading the initial claim.
“Please stop spreading false news. Bloggers should also post this video the same way they were quick to jump on that misconception,” she said.
The incident once again highlighted the speed at which unverified information can spread online. It also underscored the growing concern over misinformation and its impact on public figures.
As reactions continued, many fans supported Debbie’s response and called for more responsible use of social media. Others emphasised the importance of fact-checking before sharing sensitive claims.
Overall, Debbie Shokoya’s response served as a firm rebuttal to the viral rumour, while also drawing attention to the need for accuracy and accountability in digital reporting.
