Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has defended his upbringing and family background, asserting that he comes from a respectful and well-disciplined family.
Despite the occasional public controversies surrounding his actions as a celebrity, Davido insists that his behaviour does not reflect a lack of proper upbringing.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Olu of Warri in Delta State on Saturday. The award-winning singer emphasized the strong values planted in him by his parents.
He acknowledged that while he may sometimes act out of character due to the pressures of fame, this does not determine his upbringing.
“I was brought up by great parents,” Davido declared. “I come from a very respectful family. But sometimes, as OBO [Omo Baba Olowo], I may act out of place,” he added, addressing some of the public misconceptions about his behaviour.
This clarification comes in response to a recent jab aimed at his family by fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid, who subtly criticized Davido’s family upbringing. In a post on X, Wizkid appeared to reference Davido’s family, stating, “When you see people whose family raised them well, you’ll know! You don’t see my uncle dancing online!”
This was widely interpreted as a dig at Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who has gained attention for his frequent dance videos, earning him the nickname “The Dancing Governor.”
While Davido did not directly address Wizkid’s remarks during his visit, his comments about his family were seen as a subtle response. The singer has often been in the public eye for his bold personality, but he remains proud of his family heritage and the values passed down to him.
Davido’s visit to the Olu of Warri was part of his ongoing engagements in the Niger Delta region, where he continues to strengthen relationships with traditional leaders and fans alike. Despite the drama in the industry, the singer’s focus remains on his music career and representing his family with pride.
