Afrobeats singer Charles Chibueze Chukwu, popularly known as Crayon, has paid an emotional tribute to his late mother, Evelyn Chukwu, on what would have been her birthday.
The Mavin Records artist shared the tribute on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that he shaved his hair in line with family tradition, a symbolic act of love, respect, and honour as her firstborn son.
Posting before-and-after photos of his freshly shorn head, Crayon poured out his emotions in a heartfelt message, describing the day as deeply painful and reflective.

“Happy heavenly birthday mum. Today as your first son and as tradition requires I cut my hair. I hope it shows how much I love, respect and adore you mum. I miss you everyday my everything. Words can’t explain how hard today is, it hasn’t been easy navigating this world without you,” he wrote.
The singer went on to assure his late mother that he would continue to make her proud, adding, “I promise to make you proud, mum. Till we meet again. I love you mum, EVELYN CHUKWU.”
Evelyn Chukwu passed away suddenly on July 4, 2025, just four days before Crayon’s birthday. At the time, the artist described her death as “the darkest day of my life.”
Following her passing, Crayon publicly honoured her sacrifices, calling her his “soldier, backbone, angel, and pillar,” and recalling the difficult years she endured while supporting the family before his rise to fame.
She was laid to rest in October 2025, during which Crayon delivered an emotional farewell, pledging to stay strong and take responsibility for his siblings as a way of preserving her legacy.
