Nigerian skit maker and streamer Shank Comics has sparked debate online after claiming that comedians earn more money than music artists.
Speaking during a recent livestream, Shank argued that the perception that musicians are wealthier is largely influenced by their flashy lifestyles and public display of luxury.

According to him, many comedians prefer to invest their earnings rather than spend heavily on expensive items like cars, making them financially stronger in the long run.
“I think there is more money in comedy than music,” he said.
Shank specifically mentioned top Nigerian comedians Bovi Ugboma and Bright Okpocha, claiming they are wealthier than some of the biggest Afrobeats stars.
He listed artists such as Asake, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, suggesting that despite their global fame, they may not match the financial standing of some comedians.
“Bovi and Basketmouth are far richer than Asake, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and other musicians, but they prefer to invest rather than buy cars,” he claimed.
Shank further explained that comedians tend to be more future-oriented, focusing on investments and long-term financial stability rather than lavish spending.
“Comedians are very conscious of the future, so they invest more than they spend, and they don’t spend lavishly on luxuries,” he added.
He also noted that many comedians have the financial capacity to afford the same luxury lifestyle often associated with musicians but deliberately choose not to.
His comments have since triggered mixed reactions on social media, with fans debating the earning power of comedians versus musicians and the different financial habits within both industries.
