American martial artist and screen icon Chuck Norris has died at the age of 86 after reportedly falling ill while in Hawaii.
The deceased family confirmed this information on Friday.
In a statement shared on social media, the family said Norris passed away peacefully, describing him as a man of deep faith, discipline and unwavering dedication to those closest to him.
They noted that his influence stretched far beyond film and television, touching millions of fans across generations.
Norris had been on the Hawaiian island of Kauai when he became unwell on Thursday.
His death came just days after he marked his 86th birthday, an occasion he celebrated by posting a light-hearted video of himself training, accompanied by the remark that he was “levelling up” rather than ageing.
Rising from a martial arts background, Norris built a formidable reputation before transitioning into acting. He gained early attention following his appearance alongside Bruce Lee in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon, a role that helped launch his Hollywood career.
He went on to become one of the defining action stars of the 1980s, featuring in films such as “Missing in Action” and “Delta Force”. His popularity later soared with his lead role in the long-running television series Walker, Texas Ranger, where he portrayed a crime-fighting Texas Ranger.
Beyond the screen, Norris maintained a strong connection to martial arts, holding black belts in multiple disciplines and promoting fitness and self-discipline throughout his life. In later years, he experienced a resurgence in popularity among younger audiences, fuelled by viral internet jokes that portrayed him as a near-mythical figure.
He also made appearances in international advertising campaigns, reinforcing his status as a global cultural figure.
Norris is remembered not only for his on-screen toughness but also for the values he championed off-screen. His family said his legacy would endure through the lives he inspired and the example he set.
