Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has moved quickly to quash false reports claiming he had died, urging fans to ignore the hoax and report its source.
In a video shared on his official Instagram page on Friday, the veteran actor addressed the rumours directly. He introduced himself and reassured supporters of his good health. “Fans and family, please disregard any rumours about my death, and kindly report the page of the blogger who started spreading them. I am very much alive by God’s grace,” he said.
Agu, known for his commanding screen presence and memorable lines, added a defiant note in the clip. He declared, “Chief Chiwetalu Agu, okenmiri n’ezoru Oha 1 of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State, is not going to die anytime soon. Instead, I will be the one to bury my enemies. Na who dig pit go fall inside. Na who dig grave go fall inside.”
He also shared a personal wish, saying he still hopes to carry his grandchildren in good health when the time comes. The actor’s mix of humour and stern warning drew a strong reaction from fans who flooded the comments with relief and support.
Chiwetalu Agu said he had considered legal action, but only against major outlets that might amplify false claims. “If it were any of the big bloggers who carried the false information, I would have sued them for defamation, economic and business damage, but the blogger involved is still struggling with likes,” he observed. The remark showed his frustration with gossip but also a hint that the source lacked wide reach.

Within hours of the post, many fans took to social media to express relief and to celebrate the actor’s well-being. Supporters praised his frank manner and urged others to stop sharing unverified news.
Several called on social platforms to tighten controls on false reports that distress public figures and their families.
Chiwetalu Agu has long been a staple of Nigerian cinema. With a career spanning decades, he is celebrated for numerous roles that showcased his distinctive persona and comedic timing. He holds traditional titles and remains a respected voice in the industry. Rumours about his health or death often spark swift attention because of his iconic status.
His quick response highlights a growing problem: the spread of false death reports on social media. Such hoaxes cause panic, fuel misinformation, and can harm the reputations and businesses of public figures.
Observers say the trend also underlines the need for better fact-checking by bloggers and users before sharing dramatic claims.
For now, Chiwetalu Agu appeared unshaken. He closed his message with confidence in his future and a call to action. He asked fans to report the offending page and to focus on more positive engagement.
“Report them,” he said. “I am very much alive by God’s grace.”
The actor’s clear statement seems to have calmed his followers. Many now hope the episode will prompt more careful reporting and less viral speculation when news about public figures surfaces.
