Nigerian gospel singer Chidinma Ekile has shared a powerful and deeply personal account of her recent 40-day spiritual retreat.
The singer, who rose to fame after winning Project Fame West Africa, described the experience as one of the most intense and life-changing periods of her life.
In a recent testimony, Chidinma revealed that she spent 40 days in complete isolation, devoting herself to prayer, fasting, and seeking divine direction. According to her, the journey was marked by emotional and spiritual battles, yet it ultimately led her to a deeper connection with God.
“It felt like I was alone with God, stripped of everything else,” she said.
During the retreat, which she spent on a mountain, the singer said she often slept outdoors, choosing to pray and sing throughout the night. She described how the solitude helped her pour out her heart to God and feel His presence in ways she had never experienced before.
“There were nights I stayed outside, singing and praying,” she recalled. “It was very personal. I was talking to God with my music and tears. And I could feel Him listening.”
Process not easy, says Chidinma
Chidinma admitted that the process was far from easy. She faced several moments of deep internal struggle, including one particularly frightening experience she described as a confrontation with a dark, spiritual force.
She recounted a chilling moment when she stood at the edge of a cliff and heard a voice urging her to jump. It was a spiritual attack, she said, aimed at cutting her journey short. “The devil came to take me before my time,” Chidinma said. “It was night. I was on top of the cliff, and everything was dark. Then I heard a voice, very strong telling me to jump. It was clear. I was supposed to end it there.”
But just as she was about to obey, something unexpected happened.
“When I moved closer, I realised I couldn’t jump. It was like something was blocking me. There was an invisible wall, a force I couldn’t see,” she said.
She described the moment as a spiritual intervention that saved her life.
“It was like I was in a theatre, and God was performing surgery on me. He shredded me. He removed everything. I’ve seen it all. Material things don’t move me anymore.”
Following the testimony, many fans and followers took to social media to commend Chidinma’s courage and openness. They praised her for sharing such a vulnerable moment and expressed admiration for her spiritual strength.
One follower wrote, “Your story gave me chills. God truly has a purpose for you.” Another added, “Thank you for not giving up. This will save someone’s life.”
Chidinma, who transitioned from secular music to gospel in 2021, has become a vocal advocate for faith and spiritual growth. Her music and message continue to inspire many, especially young people seeking meaning in a fast-paced world.
She ended her testimony with a message of hope:
“If you ever feel alone, please remember that God is closer than you think. The devil tried to end me, but God said no. And I’m still here for a reason.”
Chidinma’s story is a reminder of the unseen battles many people fight, and the power of faith to bring healing, purpose, and peace.
