Maverick singer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has criticised Nigerian Christian clerics, alleging that many of them prioritise profit over speaking truth to power.
Speaking on a recent episode of the KAA Truths podcast, the ‘Area Fada’ crooner accused some pastors of remaining silent in the face of Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges. He further alleged that certain clerics collaborate with corrupt politicians to exploit the masses.

Charly Boy insisted that although he lives in Nigeria, he does not subscribe to what he described as the popular mindset that allows religious leaders to evade accountability.
“All the pastors I know of in Nigeria, 99 per cent of them are useless. It is just a business that they are running,” he claimed.
“I may live in Nigeria, but Nigeria does not live in me. I don’t believe like you. I don’t want to think like you people. I’m not in the same class with you people. I come from a different space and time,” he added.
His comments have sparked fresh debate on social media, with Nigerians divided over the role of religious leaders in addressing governance, corruption, and social justice in the country.
