Born in Maiduguri, Borno State, Dr. Suleiman Saidu Suleiman began his academic journey at the University of Maiduguri, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences in 2008. Driven by a passion for environmental and public health issues, he proceeded to the United Kingdom, earning a Master’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment from the University of Birmingham in 2015. In 2023, he capped his academic pursuits with a PhD in Environmental Health and Risk Management from the same institution.

Dr. Suleiman’s professional career spans both industry and academia. Between 2010 and 2014, he worked in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, contributing to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) gas project in Ogboinbiri, Bayelsa State. His experience in the energy sector provided him with firsthand insight into industrial operations, safety management, and environmental protection.
He later transitioned into academia, serving as a Teaching Associate at the University of Birmingham from 2019 to 2022. Since 2024, Dr. Suleiman has been a lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, while also serving as a Health and Safety Manager with the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom since 2022. His dual roles underline his expertise in health, safety, and risk management across complex institutions.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Suleiman has remained closely connected to his roots. Between 2018 and 2022, he actively served Nigerian and other international communities in the United Kingdom, contributing his time and leadership to initiatives aimed at community development and social engagement.
Widely travelled, Dr. Suleiman has visited numerous countries and, more importantly, has toured extensively across Borno State. He has personally visited every local government area within the Southern Borno Senatorial District, gaining a deep understanding of the region’s challenges, priorities, and aspirations.
Politically, Dr. Suleiman joined the United Kingdom chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015, where he played an active role in party activities. He remains a committed supporter of the APC and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
